A Letchworth Mum whose son was saved by staff at the Lister Hospital shortly after his birth, is appealing to other parents for help...

Ruth Cheesman is one of the Mums behind the Lister Neonatal Unit Families group, supporting other parents who are going through similar experiences.

Today, they're holding a Buggypush and Toddlethon on Norton Common from 11am.

Ruth says difficulties after birth can be a terrifying experience for new Mums and Dads: "I can't describe what it is like to go through. It is a pretty scary time going through pregnancy and giving birth and every parent hopes for a healthy child."

Ruth continued: "It is such an emotional time when your child is there, because they are so small and vulnerable.

Although they are being really well cared for, you can't help being scared because there are lots of strange noises, tubes and machinery that you don't understand.

The Unit does offer support for families, but my idea was to get involved and improve support for others."
