GALLERY: Duke Of Edinburgh Visits Stevenage Business And Technology Centre

Stevenage has shown the way it nurtures start-up businesses during a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh...

Prince Philip attended the Stevenage Business and Technology Centre on Bessemer Way this morning (October 10th).

He was due to visit the town during the Queen's Jubilee celebrations, but had to pull out because of ill health.

Today (October 11th), he officially opened the 'My Incubator' small business incubator unit.

The Duke heard how the partnership between Stevenage Borough Council, which owns the BTC, and Wenta, which manages the centre on its behalf, have played a significant role in developing new innovative businesses in Stevenage.


More than 50 businesses have launched with the help of My Incubator and more than 20 are currently being supported within the facility at the BTC.

The Duke of Edinburgh also chatted to larger Hertfordshire-based companies who have close links with the Business and Technology Centre.

The Duke unveiled a plaque to mark the Royal visit and the official launch of the My Incubator unit.


While there he met local dignitaries including the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Stevenage's Mayor, Stevenage Youth Mayor and the Leader of Stevenage Borough Council.

Thirty year 9 ands 10 pupils from six local schools including Barnwell and Thomas Alleyne attended.
