Some of Letchworth's poorest families are to get a lifeline from a new foodbank scheme in the Garden City...
Work is now underway to create emergency food parcels for people in crisis, who have maybe just lost their jobs or are struggling on benefits.
A separate scheme is being worked on for Stevenage, although another is already being run by a Church in Welwyn Hatfield.
Trustee Frank Nuttal has been telling JACK fm people who suddenly become unemployed can really struggle to make ends meet: "It can take time to get benefits in place and families can find themselves with no income whatsoever.
They can still find themselves having to feed their families and pay bills and things can reacha desparate situation very quickly."
Frank says people will be referred to them by local agencies: "I would stress this is crisis support and this is not meant to be long-term support.
We will aid them while they get benefits in place."
